Recommended Gear

• Recommended Camera Gear -


• DSLR - Sony, Canon, Fuji, Pentax, Nikon, Other - Two bodies are recommended in case of a problem

• Tripod - Sturdy and preferably with a ball head

• Camera Bag - Backpack style is best suited for nature and landscape photography

• Remote Trigger - To aid with long exposure and to reduce camera shake

• Filters - Polarizer and or a neutral density filter

• Lens hood - To hold down flare and stray light

• Lens Cloth - To keep the lens clean

• Lenses - Wide angle lens - Zoom Lens

• Spare Camera Batteries - Always a must

• Spare SD Cards - Always a must for extra shooting or in case of a card failure

• Laptop - You should have a RAW image processor and image editing software to view your images and walk    through the basic preparation of a single image. I always have mine on hand as well for demonstration purposes    at the end of the session.

• Camera Manual - Hard Copy - A PDF version for your smart phone is ideal

• Optional - Any other gear you have that you might have questions about - Panorama - Infrared - Etc

• Light or Headlamp - For Light painting or late evening workshops


• Things to Know About Your Camera -


• Live View - Good for tricky angles and compositions and also for checking critical focus

• Focus Points - Good for dialing into a specific point when more critical focus is needed

• ISO - Good for changing light conditions

• Self Timer - In case you don’t have a remote trigger the self timer comes in handy

• Auto Bracketing - Helps to capture a series of bracketed shots - Sometimes these are needed in post to layer a    photo showing a complete dynamic range of light


• Recommended Non-Camera Gear -


• Hat - For extreme sunny days

• Hiking Boots - Preferably waterproof and with ankle support

• Water Bottle - Always good to have on any outing

• Snack - It will be a long day

• Towel - For ground level work

• Gloves - If cold for our particular workshop
