DeeDee created this for her musically talented son. I gave advice on how to light it properly, but this entire project is hers, and all custom. Turned out amazing! In DeeDee's Words - This project was a lot of fun but not without it’s challenges. However I will do it again. ☺ I used a very low quality guitar. I watched several videos on removing the front that involved heating it with an iron or heat gun. This didn’t work for me. Maybe I was too impatient but it did not soften the glue on this particular instrument. Step 1. Remove all of the strings and the front of the guitar. I took a jigsaw to it. I cut all the way around the face within an inch of the side. The inch salvage gave me something to grip on. I literally just started pulling on it and the whole thing came off in one piece. Like I mentioned, I used a low quality guitar. I can’t imagine that they will all come apart this easily. If you have one that doesn’t there are some good things to try on YouTube. Mine came off very clean and left me a nice edge to make a template from.
DeeDee created this for her musically talented son. I gave advice on how to light it properly, but this entire project is hers, and all custom. Turned out amazing! In DeeDee's Words - Step 2. Using cardboard or something fairly stiff, make a template by placing the guitar face down and tracing around the outside. Trim to fit the guitar face. I cut it in the drawn line but then trimmed it until I liked the way it fit while allowing for lead “U” came to finish off the edge. Once it is cut on the outside you will need to cut out around the neck. Again I cut it close then finessed it until I got the fit I wanted. Again allowing for the lead “U” came to finish it off.

Once I had a template, I traced it onto paper several times. On the paper I drew my own design. This was one of the hardest parts. I don’t draw ☹. I probably did 10-15 designs before I came up with what I have. I wanted my design to work with the curves of the guitar. You can also do a theme or image of something that you like. Again it was a challenge for me.
